The Wrong Wedding

I had a dream last night…

I was at my best friend’s wedding and she told me that she needed my help preparing for her brother’s wedding which was happening soon. I kept waiting for her to call and tell me how I could take part in the planning and festivities, but she didn’t. I knew the wedding was still happening, but I wasn’t sure when or where, so I decided to show up to a place I suspected it could be … and there she was in full blown wedding set up mode. I approached her and asked why she didn’t reach out and let me be involved and she made several excuses, like that she knew I didn’t really have the time and she didn’t want to keep me away from my family. I was completely heartbroken and as I was walking out of the venue, I overheard a group of women saying that the groom was not coming and there was no groom at all.

As I was watering the trees this morning, I was still trying to shake the sadness of the dream off my spirit, when the Holy Spirit told me I was missing the entire point of the dream by focusing on the people in it. He clearly said, “Right now there are many people preparing for a wedding where The Groom is not going to be there. They’re at the wrong wedding and they don’t even know it.”

The sting of this truth is why I’m sharing it with you. I believe Jesus is watching the wedding each of us are spending our lives revolving around. For some, that’s the one where He awaits us in glory and for others it will be a place He defeated, conquered, and will not return there again. He has already laid eternity down as the aisle we’ll walk upon to meet Him someday soon. And He is paying attention to every detail and way we position our lives to anticipate that moment when we see Him face to face.

May we be ever watchful where the ones in our lives are spending their time and who they’re really preparing their hearts to be with. And let us all heed the protection of the Holy Spirit who keeps us out of places where the Groom has not been welcomed. May we be the ones roaming the earth with a heart full of invitations to the real marriage feast of the Lamb!

Revelation 19:6-9

“Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, ‘Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give Him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure’ – for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.

And the angel said to me, ‘Write this:  Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage super of the Lamb.’ And he said to me, ‘These are the true words of God.”
